Q. Are the chickens really free range, and are
they really allowed outside the shed?
A. After the chickens are fully feathered (approx 21 days), birds are
free to roam outside during daylight hours.
Q. How do I know that the chicken is really
Free Range?
A. Real Free Range chickens are only sold with the Free Range Egg and
Poultry Association logo. If the FREPA logo is not displayed then the
chicken has not been certified.
Q. Is there an accreditation body that
independently audits the Farms?
A. All Lilydale farms are accredited by the Free Range Egg &
Poultry Australia Ltd.
Q. Are the chickens given antibiotics?
A. No. Chickens are not given any growth promoting antibiotics.
Chickens treated with such antibiotics are not sold as Free Range.
Q. What are the chickens fed?
A. The chickens are fed quality cereal grains such as wheat, sorghum,
soybean and soybean meal.
Q. Are chickens given growth promoting hormones?
A. No chickens in Australia since 1967 are given any growth promoting
hormones.
Q. Do other wild life or animals have access to
the chickens?
A. The chickens are safe in well fenced paddock areas. All attempts are
made to keep predators out at all times. Chickens are housed from
sunset to sunrise to keep them safe from wildlife.
Q. Do the chickens eat in the outdoors?
A. Chickens are free to forage outdoors in the grassy paddocks, however
their meals are fed to them indoors to ensure that the farms do not
attract predators.
Q. Are the chickens kept in cages whilst they
are inside the sheds?
A. Absolutely not. All meat chickens whether Free Range or not, are
free to walk around while inside. It is a myth that meat chickens are
raised in cages.
Q. Where are Lilydale Farms?
A. Lilydale farms originated in the Yarra Valley in Victoria and are
now found throughout South Australia and New South Wales in regions
such as the lush surrounds of the Barossa Valley in South Australia,
which is know for its world famous wines and outstanding produce.
Q. Are chemicals used in processing the
chickens?
A. During the cleaning process, chickens are washed in water that
contains small levels of chlorine. The chlorine kills any bacteria that
may exist in the water. The amount of chlorine used is extremely small
and adheres to government regulations. The cleaning process ensures
that our consumers receive clean, well presented chicken.
Q. Are Lilydale products Halal?
A.Yes, all Lilydale products are Halal and are accredited by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils.
Q. Are the chickens genetically modified in
anyway?
A. The chickens are a natural breed and are not in anyway genetically
modified. The breed of chickens we farm are Cobb chickens. We have also
received independent reports which show that our chicken is free from
GMO.
Q. Is the packaging recyclable?
A. The tray and label is recyclable under classification 6.
Q. Are there any pesticides used on the grounds
where the chickens roam?
A. No pesticides are used on the grounds where the chickens roam and we
receive regular reports from the Australian Government Analytical
Laboratories to state that our chickens are clear from any pesticide
residual.
Q. Are chickens given any feeds which are
genetically modified?
A. Soy and Soy products given to our chickens may contain GMO. However,
independent testing indicates that this does not affect the DNA of our
chicken in anyway. Chickens themselves are not genetically modified.
